Getting Rid of Garden Ants, Black Ants, Lasius Niger

Garden Ant Removal

The Garden Ant and Black Ant are one of the same, three different names (including the Latin name Lasius Niger) for one little pest.

Ants in the garden. Ants not only nest in flower beds but under paving stones and around buildings. Ants nest in lawns and in roots of garden plants which causes problems for gardeners because of the damage caused to plant roots, and in turn seriously affect the soil structure. Damage caused by garden ants can be attributed to poor plant performance and indeed death to plants.

Ants in the house.

Although ants are generally external pests they enter premises in search of food. Garden ants will forage for food, not necessarily our choice of food but that consisting of nectar, seeds, small dead insects and the sugary secretions produced by green or black flies.

You might think that list counts you out, but a slight spillage of sugar or any kind of drink would attract black ants (garden ants) into your home. Once in, their feeding isn't necessarily restricted to accidental spillage, they will gain access to most types of food packing than provides a sample of its contents.

Do Ants Spread disease?

The short answer is no, not directly anyway, but Garden Ants are still a nuisance because of their foraging habits they can be unexpectedly discovered in our food and indeed eaten by ouselves and of course children..

What do garden ants/black ants look like?

We all know what an ant look like, the Garden Ant in particular has a three parts to its body and has a distinctive head. There are two types; 'workers' which are black and measure 2-5mm in length and the 'queen' which is considerably bigger at 15mm long and brown in colour.

The 'worker' ants nurture the young and forage for their food whilst the 'queen' ant remains in the nest and lays eggs very much in the manner of wasps. Getting Rid of garden ants in London.
